The Position

The Office of Management and Finance Fleet Division has Storekeeper/ Acquisition II - Auto Parts position available. The Storekeeper/Acquisition II -Auto Parts position is responsible for performing activities related to supplies, services and materials management, shipping and receiving, inventory control, customer service, purchasing within delegated limits and preparatory accounting for vendor payment processing. This position is focused on automotive parts acquisition, storage, and distribution.

Typical duties include:

+ Issuing automotive parts, tools, and equipment to automotive mechanics from stock supply in accordance with prescribed methods; assembles and fills orders by requisition; occasionally picks up and delivers materials, unloads, and arranges supplies on shelves, bins, or other receptacles.

+ Advising automotive mechanics regarding parts substitutions based upon specification comparability, price and availability.

+ Ordering from parts houses parts and equipment that are not in stock but are required immediately for a mechanical repair.

+ Checking quality and number of items received against invoices or waybills; posts information to stores records and perpetual inventories; makes recapitulations and other reports on materials; takes physical count of materials for inventory purposes.

+ Cleaning storage areas and keeps work areas orderly and neat.

+ Performing related duties as assigned.

Work Location

Currently, many positions with the City of Portland are being performed remotely due to COVID-19. Some employees are working from home full-time, while other roles cannot be filled in a remote status (firefighter, vehicle mechanic, street maintenance, etc.). In the future, current positions classified as "full-time remote" could: 1) remain full-time remote, 2) become a remote/onsite mix, or 3) revert to full-time at a city work location.

To Qualify

Applicants must specifically address and demonstrate in their supplemental question responses and resume how their education, training, work experience and/or lived experience, meets each of the following minimum qualifications:

+ Knowledge of a wide variety of light and heavy duty vehicle parts and supplies.

+ Knowledge of automotive equipment and internal combustion engine operating principles and repair practices.

+ Knowledge of methods, forms and terminology used in the receipt, storage, and issuance of automotive parts.

+ Knowledge of computer assisted business/financial programs, business mathematics and safe working practices.

+ Experience in receiving, issuing, handling, and inventorying materials.

+ Ability to read and interpret parts catalogs.

Applicant must also:

+ Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 per City/State mandate or have an approved exception by date of hire.

+ A valid state driver's license.

+ Physical strength to lift and carry weight up to 100 pounds, physical agility to stoop, reach and climb when stocking or pulling stores.

+ Applicants must able to earn a forklift operator certification within 90 days of hire

The Recruitment Process
