Job Description:
Assistant ControllerReports to: Chief Executive OfficerPosition
Purpose:Develop, manage, and maintain reliable accounting
information and reporting on income, expenses, assets, liability,
and capital for management planning and decision-making and for the
fulfillment of financial reporting requirements.Reconcile GL and
bank accounts.Manage the activities of the accounting department
and staff.Ensure that reports, accounts, systems, policies, and
practices adhere to generally accepted accounting principles
(GAAP).Additionally support HR functions such as payroll,
maintenance of payroll systems, HR onboarding, and exits of
new/existing employees.Filing of taxes and related HR reports for
the credit union.Job Responsibilities:Manage accounting functions
to include AP, AR, cash flow, cost management, financial analysis,
financial reporting and recordkeeping, GL, investment review, and
recording, payroll, and taxes.Implement policies and procedures for
the accounting department and ensure that policies and procedures
reflect current regulations and are communicated to and implemented
by subordinates.Reconcile revenue reports, unbilled variances,
special projects, payroll, and timesheet reports, and claims
disbursements. Prepare daily balance sheet (loan and share)
examination. Prepare daily cash position assessment.Responsible for
general ledger reconciliation, examination of financial accounts,
and preparation of journal entries. Provide end-of-month close and
produce monthly financial statements. Prepare or assist with
incurred costs and provisional rate reports as necessary.Ensure
that all activities of the department are in accordance with GAAP
and that the accounting records are maintained accurately and in
compliance with laws and regulations.Develop and implement
processes to streamline credit union accounting procedures.Develop
and maintain complex computer-based analyses and reports of credit
union accounting records on a regular basis.Provide regular reports
to management of all online accounting activities for the credit
union's accounting/ bookkeeping department.Monitor fixed-asset
management and ensure all capitalized assets are inventoried and
tracked.Conduct special accounting studies, analyses, and special
projects as requested by management.Perform all in-house payroll
procedures, such as entering automated payroll data, processing
employee timecards, preparing monthly journal entries, and
maintaining employee tax deductions and exemptions. Monitor the
payroll data for accuracy for each payroll.Monitor employee data
files online, including medical leave, personal leave, vacation,
benefits, promotions, and terminations. Ensure that documentation
trails are complete and up to date.Prepare and submit governmental
reports and tax deposits.Perform employee salary forecasts and
analyses for the credit union as necessary.Coordinate the payroll
processing with the outsourced online provider and manage any
project to migrate from one payroll system to another if
applicable.May prepare and update the credit union employee
directory.Evaluate technology proposals and contracts and provide
recommendations to management on vendors, bids, outsourcing, etc.
as relates to accounting/ finance/ HR functions.Manage Back-office
operations/ process back-office operations when staff is on
vacation.Manage Collections staff.Responsible for HR for the credit
union.Prepare and submit quarterly reports to various outside
agencies as needed for accounting/ back-office support
processing.Qualifications and Experience:Ability to act as a change
agent; to operate with urgency; and to challenge the status
quo.Strong team player and self-starterOutstanding communication
(written and verbal) skills.Highly organized with time management
and problem-solving skills. Strong initiative and sense of priority
with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.A
bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent years of experience
and/or certifications.Willingness and ability to exhibit PL8FCU

for prolonged periods.Must be able to remain in a stationary
position 50% of the time.The person in this position occasionally
needs to move about inside the office to access filing cabinets,
office machinery, etc.Constantly operate a computer and other
office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine,
and computer printer.The ability to communicate information and
ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate
information in these situations.The ability to observe details at
close range (within a few feet of the observer).Must be able to
occasionally lift items weighing up to 25 pounds across the office
and load them onto shelves for various needs.For All
