POSITION: Library/Media Manager LOCATION: Centennial High School
HOURS: 7:45am - 3:15pm (.875 FTE position) at 7 hours a day
CALENDAR: 193 Days Per Year SALARY: $21.59 - $30.78 (Range E) START

Until Filled JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT/S: The job of Library/Media
Manager, High School is to manage the day-to day operations of the
library media center; perform clerical and paraprofessional duties
associated with the circulation of print and non-print library
materials; directly assists students and staff with use of the
library. Work is primarily performed without the direct supervision
of a Library Media Specialist. Methods of performing the tasks are
the responsibility of the employee so long as performed with the
established policies and procedures. Work is reviewed periodically
to ensure conformance with standards. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assist library patrons with selection and check-out procedures of
library materials. Provide basic instruction (training) and
guidance to students in locating and using library resources,
including the library on-line catalog (Destiny). Fill staff
requests for gathering materials on specific subjects and themes
for classroom use. Monitor and manage behavior of students using
the library; personally handle minor disciplinary matters following
the school’s behavior plan, and write referrals for more serious
infractions. Use library technology (Destiny) to track overdue,
lost or misplaced materials and issue overdue notices. Add and
withdraw students. Monitor and process hold requests and
interlibrary loan requests Resolve problems with overdue/lost and
damaged books including calling and/or sending notices to parents
and collecting payment. Set-up and run a variety of reports
relating to circulation (Destiny), including class lists and
individual notices and monthly statistics. Order supplies for book
processing and repair, visual displays, office materials. Receive
new library materials and supplies and verify accuracy of and
completeness of shipments, sign packing lists and give to the
building bookkeeper. Make inquiries regarding problems with
shipments. Assist District Librarian with selecting and processing
new books and materials, including attaching barcodes, call number
labels and genre stickers, ownership stamping, attaching protective
covers. Process and circulate textbooks and lit study books.
Maintain textbook depository including setting up procedures for
beginning and end of year. Maintain periodical collection. Shelve
returned materials. Repair damaged books. Assist District Librarian
with weeding of outdated and severely worn materials. Conduct a
yearly collection inventory and provide a summary report to the
building principal and District Librarian. Manage yearly staff
inventory for textbooks housed in classrooms. Assist staff with use
of audio-visual equipment. Prepare bulletin boards and displays to
help patrons locate materials and generate interest in reading a
variety of genres. Assist District Librarian with maintaining and
updating of the school library website. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Perform
related duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS – QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience Preferred: Two years experience performing library
clerical and paraprofessional circulation/cataloging work. Must be
an accurate typist. Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
General skills include alphabetizing materials accurately and
quickly; understanding and carrying out oral and written
directions; typing with accuracy; operating a computer terminal to
input and retrieve data; performing a variety of clerical work and
operate standard office machines, including a laminator. General
knowledge in correct English usage, vocabulary and spelling; modern
office methods, procedures and computer equipment; general clerical
principles and practices; and demonstrated basic math. General
abilities to learn basic library/media methods, practices and
terminology, including the Dewey Decimal System. Organize and
prioritize a wide range of tasks and select work methods which
allow for the timely and accurate completion of tasks; be
self-directed and perform duties for extended periods of time in
the absence of an immediate supervisor. Establish and maintain
effective working relationships with those contacted in the course
of work. Requires a light degree of physical stamina and strength.
Requires periodic walking, standing, and bending and occasional
lifting of up to 20 pounds. Requires periods of continuous
operation of office machines and audio-visual equipment. Ability to
speak a second language preferred. EDUCATION REQUIRED: High school
diploma or equivalent. One year of clerical work experience,
preferably in an environment with some exposure to the operation of
a library. LICENSES, BONDING AND/OR TESTING REQUIRED: Criminal
Justice Fingerprint Clearance. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work
year to be established by the Board. EVALUATION: Performance of
this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions
of the Board’s Policy on Evaluation of Support Staff Personnel.
