THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION FOR THE PORTLAND SUMMER SCHOLARS
PROGRAMESL TeacherProof of full COVID-19 vaccination is considered

LOCATION, DATES, HOURSPROGRAM START DATE (First Day Students in
Session): July 10th, 2023PROGRAM END DATE (Last Day Students in
Session): August 4th, 2023EMPLOYEE START DATE: June 29th,
2023EMPLOYEE END DATE: August 4th, 2023TRAINING DATES: June 29-30th
and July 5-7thDUTY DAYS/HOURS: Monday - Friday; 7:30 AM - 12:30
PMLOCATIONS: Atkinson, Chapman, Faubion, Grout, King, Lee, Lent,
Peninsula, Rosa Parks, Scott, Sitton, Stephenson, Woodmere
CONTINGENCIES:All positions are contingent on enrollment of
students. It is essential that applicants remain available until
the registration process is complete. We will, however, make
earlier commitments as definite positions become evident.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:Summer Acceleration Academy will operate at 18
sites across this district this summer. Each of these sites will be
considered a "hub" and will serve priority students from that
site's student body and from neighboring school communities. Each
school serving students in grades K-8 will have an opportunity to
refer priority students to their nearest summer hub. Classrooms
will be organized by grade-level and will each support about 15
students. Reading, math, and STEAM curriculum will be provided to
teaching staff. In addition to classroom teaching staff, students
and families will also be supported at each hub by an on-site
administrator, mental health professional, special educator,
floating classroom assistants, and a health assistant. PPS staff
from any site can apply to work at a Summer Acceleration Academy
hub. PPS staff supporting this program will lead the morning
session and then we will work with community and SUN providers to
provide extended day enrichment for participating students.
POSITION DESCRIPTIONThe classroom teacher performs under
supervision of a principal or other designated supervisor and has
major responsibility for the instruction and supervision of
students. Instruction of students shall include individual skill
development, expansion of knowledge, and development of ability to
reason. Supervision of students shall include guidance, development
and safety. The classroom teacher functions in accordance with the
established policies, rules, regulations and the performance
standards of the District/State and the performance goals
established for the teacher.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
WORKING CONDITIONSThe conditions herein are representative of those

an elementary, middle, K-8, alternative and/or high school campus
environment with extensive student, parent and public contact and

Employees may be subject to temperature extremes, fumes, odors,
dust and exposure to bodily fluids and blood.Physical Demands:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility
to work in a school classroom, playground and campus setting;
dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and
other classroom, library and business equipment; sitting, standing
and walking for extended periods of time; kneeling, bending at the
waist; lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying school equipment,
supplies and materials weighing up to 25 pounds; repetitive hand
movement and fine coordination to use a computer keyboard;
emotional stability to work effectively under pressure and to keep
all aspects of the job under control; hearing and speaking to
exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read,
prepare and assure the accuracy of documents.
LICENSURE/ENDORSEMENT REQUIREMENTS:All teachers must be properly
licensed by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission as a
Professional Educator and endorsed in the subject area for which
they are applying to teach.
PAY RATE: Current PPS employees who work the same summer position
as their regular school year position will be paid their current
hourly rate of pay, but not less than the hourly summer school
rate. All other hires will be paid $44.66 per hour.
