Location: (Various Locations in NW Oregon)
Reports To: Outdoor School Site Supervisor
Compensation: NOSS Salary Schedule ($20.43 - $24.41 per hour,
DOE)
SPRING 2025 Dates: February 18, 2025-June 3, 2025

quality services and support. General Description
The Outdoor School Field Instructors assume responsibility for the
planning and implementation
of field- based environmental education programs at residential
Outdoor Science School sites.
This position is overnight, requiring the employee to live on-site
during the work week
Monday-Friday. Room and board are provided. Our program operates at
multiple sites in
Northwest Oregon near the following communities; Vernonia, Salem,
Cloverdale, Rockaway
Beach, and Welches.
Employee will be compensated 50 hours per week. Weekly schedule
varies from Monday-Friday
or Sunday-Thursday. Most work weeks are 5 days. Due to the seasonal
camp-based nature of
this position, it is exempt for state overtime wage
regulations.
Qualifications; To perform this job successfully, an individual
must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The
requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge,
skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be

1. Ability to manage both large and small groups of students safely
through various program activities.
2. Knowledge of or ability to learn best practices in Outdoor
Education to share content knowledge to students attending the
Outdoor School program.
3. Ability to work on a team and collaborate with others.
4. Knowledge of restorative practices and compassionate conflict
resolution.
5. Personable, timely, and communicative.
6. Ability to follow lesson plans as provided by Northwest Outdoor
Science School.
Essential Functions: The duties listed below are not inclusive, but
characteristic of the type and level of work assigned for this
position. A. Train counselors (high school & college volunteers) to
teach field study content
B. Mentor counselors and staff assistants while they teach
elementary and middle school students
C. Provide direct instruction to elementary students
D. Develop lesson plans and outlines of duties for counselors and
teachers
E. Prepare teaching and student guides and other necessary
instructional materials
F. Use small group study in a discovery approach under instructor
guidance
G. Motivate students to be informed, concerned, and involved in
their environment.
H. Meet with teachers daily to plan instructional activities to
meet the needs of the students
I. Work with other Field Instructors and Site Supervisors to
integrate all field studies
J. Evaluate program and instruction quality to offer the best
possible learning opportunities
K. At every opportunity, encourage teachers to participate in
education activities
L. Be consistently aware of student and staff health and safety
while on field study
M. Be responsible for all assigned supplies and materials
N. Strive to minimize physical impacts on field study areas
O. Perform other duties as assigned, including leading social and
recreational activities
P. Assist with emergency situation as needed Note: The description
