Business Need / Purpose of Role Weir ESCO is seeking a creative Engineering Team Lead to join the Mining Expendables Products team, reporting to the Global Portfolio Manager - Mining Expendables. The successful applicant will guide a team of Engineers in optimization of technical processes and outputs to create innovative products which deliver significant value and delight our customers. They will work closely with Product Management to expand the global product offering and respond to market needs. Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities * Lead product development efforts to respond to customer needs and grow market share, including technical support for patent applications * Lead technical output of the Mining Expendables Engineering team; ensure output is accurate and appropriate for the task involved * Manage the prioritization and scheduling of team tasks and projects * Develop a solid understanding of customer needs through VOC activities as required * Assist in selling ESCO product value through delivery of technical presentations to end users * Use sound engineering principles and practices in defining, solving, and documenting problem solutions * Develop and maintain team design standards and work instructions that ensure product health, safety, and quality * Provide technical support for the production of Mining Expendables products across the ESCO division's global foundry network * Support Supply Chain to develop new suppliers from an engineering standpoint and first article manufacturing trials, lab testing, and field trials * Lead efforts to benchmark competitor products * Effectively communicate with internal and external customers at all levels * Foster a team culture of systematic problem solving and continuous improvement * Facilitate the growth of overall team skills and capabilities Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications * Minimum of a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline * Five+ years industry-related experience * Proficiency with NX CAD, Agile PLM, and MS Project * Familiarity with simulation tools such as FEA, LS-DYNA, MAGMASOFT--, ADAMS, DEM, etc. * Prior experience as an engineering team lead (or similar leadership role) preferred * Product design, manufacturing, and field issue resolution experience preferred * Knowledge of casting process and tool design preferred * Knowledge of welding practices, processes and standards a plus * Must be willing and able to travel up to 15% (domestic and international) as needed * Must be permanently authorized to work in the United States Other Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: * Strong leadership, people, and coaching skills * Strong organizational skills * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Mining operation and mining safety knowledge required Success in this role also requires a high degree of creativity and ability to think outside the box; ability to effectively work in a diverse team; effective communication, problem solving, project management and organizational skills. Additional skills and experience that are beneficial in this role include Design Thinking; Six Sigma Black Belt; steel fabrication processes and design; laser scanning and scan to model processing; and project management.
