The Role

Xos is seeking an pneumatics and brakes engineer to design and implement a complete air and braking system for electric commercial vehicles. The pneumatics and brakes will work cross functionally with other team members at Xos, as well as with external suppliers and will ultimately be responsible for bringing the complete air system together.

  • Be able to explain and justify concepts in engineering terms from first principles
  • Have good engineering intuition
  • Be proactive and self-directed
  • Have a holistic systems engineering approach, define requirements of system and design to meet them
  • Be comfortable making decisions based on engineering reasoning over ego or opinion
  • Not be afraid to try new things and learn from failure
    Responsibilities
    • Design and implement a complete air system for electric commercial vehicles
    • Architect the system overall design including creating layout, sizing and selecting components and designing parts
    • Work with external suppliers to source components to meet system needs
    • Ensure system meets safety and legal requirements as well as performance targets
    • Work hand in hand with suspension and cab mounting engineers to ensure airing system meets system needs and is holistically integrated across vehicle
    • As part of the larger chassis team, support overall chassis integration
      Requirements
      • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
      • Demonstrated experience leading small engineering teams
      • Solid understanding of fundamental physics of pneumatic systems
      • Experience with commercial vehicle airing and braking systems
      • Strong solid modeling experience. CATIA V6 preferred
