Job Description
To enable the focus required on this priority project, the network
infrastructure team is looking to augment its existing resources
and expertise with intermediate to senior level contract network
engineers to fulfil various roles supporting existing network
services and engage on the network security project as needs
arise.
The network contract position in Wilsonville will have a primary
role of supporting LAN services in the Wilsonville datacentre. This
datacentre, plus an associated colo in Hillsboro, service over 300
cabinets hosting software development servers and storage.
The networking infrastructure serving the datacentre and colo is
based on the HP Comware platform. Network reliability and
performance is essential and LAN services need to be provisioned
quickly and to the highest standard to ensure the needs of our
software development business are met.
The successful applicant will be required to be onsite in
Wilsonville for a minimum of three days per week and may
occasionally be required to attend the colo facility in
Hillsboro.
Working under the direction of a senior network engineer/architect
the position will be required to work with IT service verticals to
determine the network needs for new incoming equipment to the
datacentre/colo, including ESX, NetApp storage, blade enclosures
and grid computing systems and then ensure needs are met by
coordinating the installation of network hardware where necessary
and completing network configurations to allow service
deployments.
In line with general network operations for the datacentre, the
role includes completing firmware upgrades, planning other
maintenance activities, proactive monitoring and investigating
level three service incidents escalated via an internal incident
management system.
The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate a track record
managing and operating network services in a complex datacentre
type environment and ideally should have previous experience of HP
Comware switches.
More generally, contract network resources may be required to
engage on typical network infrastructure projects and operational
support activities. These activities include deployment of LAN and
WAN services for M&A projects and office relocations;
datacentre switch deployments; managing and resolving service
outages; responding to and resolving level 3 incidents for network
access and performance issues for our global internal customer
base.
Network contractors will be working within a team of locally and
globally situated network engineers.
Depending on your level of experience you may be involved in
projects that will require you to work with other stakeholders in
IT and Siemens software development departments to analyse network
requirements and planning subsequent network service
implementations in order to meet specific project objectives.
Whilst you will be part of a global team, you should be able to
operate under minimal supervision, with latitude for decision
making and cross-team communication.
