Sr. Environmental Engineer
Nippon Dynawave Packaging Company (NDP) has an immediate opening
for an Sr. Environmental Engineer to support its Longview,
Washington Liquid Packaging manufacturing facility.
The Longview Liquid Packaging facility produces market pulp and
bleached paperboard used to make cartons and cups for liquids such
as milk, juice, coffee and sake. The facility employs about 525
people and produces 260,000 metric tons of paperboard each year --
the equivalent of 6 billion liter-sized milk cartons.
Sr. Environmental Engineer
As a member of the Environmental Team, the Environmental Engineer
provides regulatory compliance support to site manufacturing
operations, including air and water quality compliance monitoring
and reporting, permit development and capital project support, and
emergency response.
Each member of the Environmental Team takes lead responsibility for
one or more regulatory program, e.g., air quality, water quality,
solid waste management, chemical reporting, and remediation.
Depending on the candidate's expertise and interests, the
Environmental Engineer may lead or support one or more of these
program areas and will assist other team members as needed in other
regulatory program areas.
Key Functions
- Promote site safety policies and initiatives and perform risk
assessments as a routine part of daily work in a heavy industrial
manufacturing facility.
- Ensure compliance with the site's Title V Air Operating Permit,
NPDES Permit and related permits.
- Support and back up other team members as needed in other
environmental program areas.
- Oversee compliance monitoring programs within their area of
expertise to assure monitoring data are accurate and satisfy
regulatory requirements.
- Prepare timely, complete, and accurate compliance reports for
certification.
- Ensure timely submissions to State & Federal Agencies,
including monthly, quarterly, semiannual and annual reports.
- Manage and oversee contracted support staff performing regular
or specialized compliance functions.
- Assist Lab Manager as needed with lab quality assurance efforts
to ensure integrity and accuracy of NPDES required laboratory
data.
- Actively participate in and promote the facility's
environmental policy, and procedures as they relate to permit
compliance and performance.
- Perform engineering calculations as required to support
projects and environmental compliance (NPDES, MACT, RMP, etc.)
activities.
- Develop and train affected personnel in understanding
environmental compliance issues and requirements.
- Lead/support environmental initiatives, environmental capital
and maintenance projects, company initiatives, and facility
strategies. Use effective communication to interact with federal
and state agencies as necessary.
- Provide 24-hour environmental emergency response as part of
rotating team of on-call environmental engineers.
- Other duties as required. Required Qualifications
- Proven commitment to safety leadership and safety performance.
- BS degree in engineering, chemistry, or related
discipline.
- 5 or more years experience with the ability to review extensive
laboratory results and process data, identify discrepancies,
accurately summarize into meaningful information or conclusions,
and effectively communicate those results.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills with an ability
to work effectively with peers, site leadership, regulatory
officials, operating personnel, laboratory personnel and the
community.
- Team oriented, with a good work ethic, positive attitude, and
the ability to work independently.
- Must have the ability to work multiple projects and adjust to
rapidly changing priorities.
- Must be physically able to perform inspections and oversee
environmental sample collection in remote locations and at heights
in an industrial facility, climbing steep terrain, stairs and
ladders as needed to access work areas.
- Willingness to work extended hours and off shifts when
conditions warrant.
