position will be required to drive a County Vehicle periodically.
This position will travel to locations within the County but will
primarily be a passenger in the Survey Trucks. This position may be
tasked with sharing driving duties with other members of the field
survey staff. Eligibility requirements and more details found on
our College to County website. What Does Transportation Do? The
Multnomah County Transportation Division manages and maintains
nearly 270 miles of roads in the cities of Fairview, Troutdale, and
Wood Village and unincorporated areas including Sauvie Island, the
West Hills and the Corbett area. We also maintain six bridges
across the Willamette River. The Transportation Division includes
six programs: Transportation Planning and Development, Road
Engineering, Road Maintenance, Bridge Engineering, Bridge
Maintenance, and Survey. The engineering intern will be assigned to
the Surveyor’s Office. Internship Description & Responsibilities:
Multnomah County is seeking one Engineering intern to join the
Transportation Division- Surveyor’s Office. As part of the
Department of Community Services, the Multnomah County Survey
Section is responsible for, among other things, restoring and
maintaining Public Land Corners; reviewing, filing and indexing
work submitted by land surveyors; and providing survey support for
capital improvement and other county projects. We are seeking an
entry level survey technician to work primarily in the field. We
are looking for candidates with the ability to work in a highly
flexible, team-oriented environment that have exceptional
communication, analytical and organizational skills. You will
interface with members of the surrounding community, the survey
team, and other employees within the Department of Community
Services. Search and locate public land corners, check and reset
public land corners as needed. Verify survey monumentation and
improvements related to land division plat reviews. Perform survey
field work in support of various survey projects. Operate, adjust
and maintain survey instruments. Learning Outcomes: Learning field
surveying fundamentals and public agency standards and procedures
Develop technical abilities related to land surveying Perform
research, computations, review, and support on public land corner
and other projects as assigned Minimum Qualifications and
Education: Candidates should have completed one year in a
college/university academic institution enrolled in Civil
Engineering program Familiarity with Google Suite (e.g., Gmail,
Calendar, Meet, Drive, Docs, and Slides) Basic knowledge of the
fundamental principles of mathematics preferred. Ability to
communicate clearly both orally and in writing Strong
problem-solving skills Ability to work cooperatively and develop
effective working relationships with diverse work groups. This
position must work in the field setting. The candidate must be
willing and able to drive; work in traffic; willing and able to
work outdoors in various (and possibly adverse) weather conditions.
