Position: Cafe Manager
Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt
Expected Weekly Hours: 34+ per week
Wage: $20+ DOE + tips (tips disbursed based on non-admin hours or hours worked as a Barista, typically 25-30 tipped hours at $6-10 tipped hours per week)

  Essential Functions:
  
  • Produce the best coffee drinks in town. Wow the customer with perfectly extracted espresso, perfectly textured milk, and beautiful latte art. Enjoy working with coffee.
    
  • Produce food that delights the customer. Enjoy working with food; be knowledgeable about food preparation and storage; be capable of training employees on food prep; present food beautifully.
    
  • Be genuine and personable when interacting with our customers. We only want the friendliest baristas in town.
    
  • Motivate baristas to be great at their jobs; coach and hold people accountable, provide direction and excellent customer service at all times.
    
  • Be knowledgeable (or teachable) about specialty coffee and excited to educate our customers on flavor and origin.
    
  • Diligent in accurately processing transactions, handling cash, and multi-tasking.
    
  • Cleanliness. We're fanatical about keeping things clean-you must be as well.
    
  • Beautifying the cafe. The cafe should be an enjoyable place to visit from an aesthetic-standpoint.
    
  • Be held accountable for customer reviews via Yelp, Google, and Square. Generate 4.5+ average scores.
    
  • Hire amazing baristas and be able to train them to Nossa Familia's standards. Cafe managers must train new employees on barista skills, customer service skills, food preparation, and more.
    
  • Be motivated to improve the cafe every day. More customers, cleaner environment, happier customers, and more outreach.
    
  • Operate profitably. Understand the basics of managing COGS, labor, and expenses, and know how to correct deficiencies.
    
  • Pride in quality of product, quality of service, and cleanliness of environment-unwavering in this regard.
    
  • You seek improvement in sustainability efforts in the cafe setting, particularly in the avoidance and/or reduction of waste and materials, as well as the to-go upcharge messaging.
    
  • Willing to work any day of the week.
    
  • Able to lift 50lbs infrequently, bend, reach, walk and remain standing and stationary for extended periods of time
    
    Required Qualifications:
    
    • Food Handler's Card (or to be obtained within 3 days of hire)
      
    • OLCC Server Permit (or to be obtained within 15 days of hire)
      
    • Passion for and/or interest in specialty coffee, ideal applicants are curious and excited about learning more about specialty coffee.
      
      Preferred Qualifications:
      
      • Experience with managing inventory, ordering correctly and on time, and working with multiple vendors required--never run out of product; no shrink.
        
      • 2+ years of direct managerial experience required; direct managerial experience in a food service environment is preferred.
        
      • Driver's license and clean driving record may be necessary. Note, there is limited parking at our locations--applicants are encouraged to bike commute or use public transit.
        
      • Barista experience in a specialty coffee shop.
        
      • Ability to pour latte art.

          Work Environment:
          Cafe environments are noisy and hectic and can be open to the elements. The cafe locations may be hot in the summer and cold in the winter.
          
          Physical Demands:
          Cafe employees are required to lift and reach for light objects and occasionally lift up to 50lbs. A cafe employee works behind a counter and may need to remain standing and in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
