Job Summary:
Serves as the nursing Manager within the Mental Health Residential
Center for Addiction Medicine (ADDM) or Mental Health (MH) services
as assigned. Supervises department nursing staff to meet the needs
of the patients, visitors, physicians, and staff. Shares
responsibility with the Clinical Services Manager for coordination
of activities within the facility to ensure efficient operations
and to assure the implementation of regionally consistent
practices, processes, and protocols to achieve excellence in
quality of care, service, access, resource utilization,
employee/physician satisfaction and workplace safety.RN Managers
are distinguished by oversight of nursing professional practice
standards, KP standards of care and clinical competency of staff in
accordance with licensure and regulatory requirements; may also
perform patient care to the extent necessary to maintain clinical
expertise and competency to fulfill job responsibilities.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Supervision: Direct responsibility, supervision and mentoring
of RN,CNA, Milieu Counselor and Unit Specialist staff working
within the facility and identifies and/or prevents potential
problems. Provides administrative presence for staff, assists with
training, problem- solving, and coaching. Provides training and
assures staff competencies are maintained. Identifies and follows
up with patient care issues. Observes staff and initiates
corrective action if required, reports appropriate information to
the Residential Administrator. Assists in developing performance
standards and measurements for systematic review. Audit performance
and ensure regulatory compliance. Reviews and resolves Event
Reports and reports appropriate information to Residential
Administrator, Addiction Medicine Medical Director or Mental Health
Residential Medical Director. Assists in developing measures for
quality and performance. Work with management to improve and
develop work flows which support efficiencies and improve service
delivery. Motivates, educates and corrects staff as needed.
Acknowledges positive staff behavior. Clearly communicates
expectations to staff.
- Staffing: Review & oversight responsibilities for staff
scheduling. Works in conjunction with MH Clinical Services Manager
and or ADDM Clinical Services Manager and the Residential
Administrator to make appropriate staffing decisions using clinical
judgment, nursing workload measurement system, and budget. Works
with charge RN and team to manage staffing levels as needed during
shift. Balances available resources with patient needs. Assists in
selection, development and retention of competent and satisfied
staff. Recruit, interview, select, orient, and provide training.
.Addresses issues requiring disciplinary action up to and including
termination. Conducts performance evaluations & recognize
achievements. Provides clinical leadership and oversight of staff
in the provision of nursing and other clinical services through
nursing professional practice standards and Kaiser Permanente
standards of care. Implements, supervises and maintains clinical
practice and quality management standards, staff competencies and
on-going development in accordance with regulations and
accreditation requirements; ensures patient safety at point of
care.
- Customers: Oversight responsibility to assist staff &
physicians in assuring that members receive safe competent care
while in the MH/ADDM residential facility and that all of their
needs have been met. Liaisons with nursing departments at medical
center.
- Financial accountability: Ensure the ongoing identification;
evaluation and implementation of cost restructure efforts, and
revenue optimization. Actively communicates departments support of
organizational goals, importance of fiscal responsibility and
mission to support healthy workers. Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum three (3) years of relevant clinical or related health
care experience
- Minimum three (3) years of applicable leadership experience,
such as charge nurse, lead or supervisor, or program/project
management experience or related consulting experience. Education
- Graduate from accredited School of nursing.
- Bachelors degree or higher in Nursing . License, Certification,
Registration
- Registered Nurse License (in the state where care is
provided)
- National Provider Identifier required at hire
- Basic Life Support Additional Requirements:
- Ability to utilize computer programs (e.g. electronic medical
record).
- Working knowledge of addiction or mental health disorders and
treatment modalities for program specific populations.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill in operations management,
including staffing, scheduling, personnel management, workflow
planning, staff development and competency assessment.
- Current knowledge of psychotropic medications, effects and
side-effects.
- Current knowledge of co-occurring medical, mental health and
chemical dependency disorders.
- Ability to manage aggressive behavior.
- Demonstrated ability to manage change, make decisions and cope
with the demands of a dynamic clinical environment. Preferred
Qualifications:
- Minimum three (3) years of leadership experience in an acute
mental health or addiction treatment setting.
- Knowledge of addiction medicine or mental health care for
program-specific populations.
- Knowledge of unit/program organization and administrative
leadership Knowledge of union contract administration.
- Working knowledge of the Kaiser Permanente organization and
business systems.
- Knowledge of regulations governing mental health and addiction
medicine facilities.
- Ability to effectively utilize continuous quality improvement
and patient safety practices to assure the provision of quality
patient care.
