The Director of Technology is responsible for strategic planning, program development and oversight, as well as identification and sponsorship of innovation ideas. The Director of Technology establishes the IT vision, goals and objectives for the department, in partnership with operational leaders and key stakeholders, to build and maintain a high-value, service-focused, accountable function. The Director of Technology develops a strong management team and promotes high employee engagement. S/he is responsible for financial and contract management for all divisions under the CIO. Multifunctional team oversight includes Infrastructure (server, telecommunications, network, database administrators), Business Applications (ERP), IS Assets and Warehouse, Desktop Field Support, Business Intelligence Analysts and Report Writers, Data Exchange and Integration, Service Desk, Telecom Operators (Switchboard and Answering Service), Information Services Security, Policies and Audits, and EMR backend technology. Duties may include periodically covering for the CIO.

Core Job Functions Include:


  • Responsible for setting long term technology strategy and short term operational goals. Leads development and owns multiple Division, Management, and other strategy initiatives.
  • Responsible for development and maintenance of multiple strategy maps.
  • Demonstrates ability to think/act strategically and influence key leaders and partners. Drives change through partnership with multiple areas and levels within organization.
  • Maintain a current understanding of technology trends, evaluates options against business requirements and develops technology roadmap that aligns with expected business outcomes.
  • Researches and integrates emerging technologies, processes, and best practices. Management of Infrastructure and Operations program.
  • Setup of environment that encourages innovation and new processes. Oversees development of innovative initiatives. Manages Maturity Model processes, measurement, and improvements.

    Minimum Qualifications Include:

    • Masters degree required; Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science or a closely related field preferred.
    • Minimum of ten (10) years professional experience within technology required. Experience in a hospital or clinical setting preferred.
    • Minimum of five (5) years experience in management of complex projects and implementation of systems required.
    • Minimum of five (5) years managing projects and applications required.
    • Minimum of three (3) years manager or director level experience.
    • ITIL certification required for current employees. New hires will be required to obtain ITIL certification within six (6) months of start date.

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Include:

      • A working knowledge of technology, applications and EMR/ERP systems.
      • Excellent verbal communication skills, especially public speaking or presenting to groups of people.
      • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.

        Working Conditions Include:

        Sitting, use of arms/wrist, manual dexterity (grasping/squeezing), & keyboard operation.

        Successful applicants will be required to undergo pre-employment drug testing for unauthorized substances. Marijuana and medical marijuana are considered unauthorized substances. Upon date of hire, applicants will be required to complete the U.S. Department Homeland Security's I-9 form confirming identity and authorization to work in the United States. Salem Hospital is likely not able to support VISA sponsorships.
