***Hire On Bonus provided for this position***Assists the School District's schools in the organization, coordination and operational procedures of the school health rooms, maintain student records, and provide limited direct health care to students.

  • Collects, prioritizes, documents, and evaluates basic student health information during routine student visits to the health office and in emergency situations, according to established policies, guidelines, and protocols
    • Assigns appropriate nursing diagnoses for individual students after analysis of assessment data during routine office visits and emergency situations
      • Provides medically prescribed Interventions, including medical/nursing treatments, of the ill and injured in the school setting
        • Provide for basic emergency health care needs of students and immediate care in case of injury or sudden illness in accordance with the school district's policies and procedures
          • Prepare and maintain student health records (i.e., immunization) and assure district compliance with state standards for health services
            • Monitor and assist students with required immunization standards, performing annual audit
              • Upholds student, staff and family's confidentiality within legal, regulatory, and ethical parameters of health and education
              • Train staff for required procedures, maintaining documentation while following established procedures
              • Provide specialized classes for students and families, maintaining log of classes and attendance
                • Act as liaison between schools, students, families, hospital, health departments, police and social services
                  • Assist with organization of health checks, vision, dental, and hearing screenings
                    • Establishes a plan of interventions to meet the immediate needs of students making routine health office visits for wellness concerns, injuries and illnesses; Communicates the intervention plan to the Individual student
                      • Provides medically prescribed interventions including medical/nursing treatments, of the ill and injured in the school setting
                        • Documents the intervention plan in the student health record
                          • Recognizes and prioritizes students' needs for individualized health care plans; Initiates the individualized health care plan
                            • Documents the completed Individualized Health Care Plan (IHCP) according to district policy
                              • Demonstrates knowledge and implementation of individual educational Plan (IEP), 504, and Health Management Plans
                                • Differentiates the essential components of the health care plan, such as an emergency care plan, routine interventions, transportation plans, off-site plans and medication plans
                                  • Collaborates with other school team and family members to develop individualized health care plans based on standardized health care plan templates
                                    • Evaluates and adjusts plans based on student or situational outcomes
                                      • Advocates for the delivery of dignified, culturally competent developmentally appropriate and humane care with staff, student and family
                                        • Provides interventions using the written health care plan and district policies, procedures and clinical protocols to address health needs
                                          • Seeks supervision when considering revisions to an established plan of care
                                            • Communicates effectively in a variety of formats in all areas of nursing practice and effectively use skills that demonstrate sensitivity necessary to work with families, students, and staff
                                              • Promotes health, wellness, self-care, and safety through education of the school community regarding health issues
                                                • Takes an active role in Special education and health care teams
                                                  • With supervision, assigns or delegates tasks to school personnel
                                                    • The Medicaid Nurse Consultant should assume the following roles and responsibilities:
                                                    • Coordinate school nursing services in an organized manner for all students and families;
                                                    • Develop policies and procedures that standardize school nursing practice;
                                                    • Provide information regarding available community resources;
                                                    • Be a liaison to other administrators, helping them understand school nurse roles and practices and advocating for students
                                                    • Be a teacher/supporter of methods to enhance the school nurses' ability to communicate school nursing knowledge and skills in an educational setting;
                                                    • Provide a link between school nursing and other support services, special education and general education staff members
                                                    • Provide direction by establishing priorities and evaluating school health programs;
                                                    • Provide professional leadership through participation in school nursing and related professional organizations;
                                                    • Develop and provide professional development activities designed to enhance clinical skills;
                                                    • Develop liaisons with other school nursing services
                                                      • Prepare financial and statistical ad hoc reports as assigned.
                                                        • Perform other related duties or projects as assigned
                                                          • Provide health services to School District staff as required by OHA or determined by Superintendent.
                                                            Education:As required by licensure. BSN or degree in progress strongly preferred. BSN may be required for specific assignments; experienced RNs without a BSN may be hired based on clinical experience with approval of the site CNO.Experience:One-year registered nursing experience or completion of either the Legacy Health RN Residency program or a nursing program that is equivalent in content, curriculum and duration. Additional clinical experience requirements may vary dependent upon the specific department in which the position is utilized.1-3 year experience as a school nurse preferredSkills:Demonstrated ability of positive interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, patients, families, physicians and the community.
