SUMMARY
This position is located in the Research and Development Service of the VA Portland Health Care System in Portland, Oregon: The IHope (Improving Health Outcomes & Patient Health-Care Experience) Team applies rigorous qualitative and quantitative scientific approaches, to improve patient-centered outcomes. With collaborations between OHSU and the Portland VHA, and beyond, our goal is to improve patients' and Veterans' engagement with VA and non-VA healthcare systems. Our research projects include patients in multiple clinical settings including lung cancer screening, head and neck cancer, critical care, toxic exposures, and palliative care.
We seek highly motivated people who have previous experience with veterans, human subjects research, and research study management, who can work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced and multi-collaborative environment.
This position is for a Clinical Research Coordinator to coordinate and conduct study activities for the IHope research group as well as manage study staff. The Clinical Research Coordinator will manage study activities and research staff for multiple research studies and also assist with research in clinical space, as permitted.
This position requires on-site work with occasional opportunities for telework after the initial onboarding and training period. Salary will be commensurate with experience in clinical practice, clinical research, and education relevant to our clinical research studies.

  • Serve as clinical research study coordinator on multiple research projects and manage research assistants.
  • Completion of administrative requirements for multiple research studies (e.g., regulatory paperwork, scheduling for principal investigators, helping create presentations, assisting with travel, etc.)
  • Contributing to the writing and preparation of scholarly manuscripts for scientific journals and presentations of study findings at professional meetings.
  • Maintaining Institutional Review Board and other regulatory compliance
  • Grant submission

    JOB DUTIES

    • Supervise research assistants & oversee human subject research studies.
    • Developing study standard operating procedures and ensuring study activities are being conducted with fidelity to research protocols
    • Overseeing recruitment and retention of study subjects from diverse backgrounds for multiple research studies. Review study recruitment plan and SOP quarterly to make sure research goals are met.
    • Conduct preliminary data analyses using both qualitative and quantitative methods.
    • Help conduct semi-structured interviews and complete quantitative coding of interviews
    • Help design and administer surveys.
    • Contributing to the writing and preparation of scholarly manuscripts for scientific journals and presentations of study findings at professional meetings.
    • Maintaining Institutional Review Board and other regulatory compliance
    • Help prepare grants for submission.
    • Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and staff from diverse backgrounds
    • Review medical records
    • Assist in conducting informed consent and administering patient surveys
    • Respond to general inquiries from study participants and clinical staff. Attend regular clinical and/or research team meetings.
    • Train research assistants in the afore mentioned duties as needed.
    • Ability to work onsite with phone and video conferences as occasional teleworking may require.

      SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
      This position has supervisory responsibilities. The clinical research coordinator will be required to supervise 1-3 research assistants on multiple research studies.

      EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
      Bachelor's degree or higher; minimum 2 years' experience with human subjects' research, 1 year or more of research with veterans preferred.
      Preferred:
      Knowledge of VA policies, procedures, and guidelines that govern projects, including those specific to research-based projects (e.g., IRB)
