The Human Resources (HR) Assistant provides the necessary support and input to ensure that HR functions are well run and the organization's HR needs are adequately met. This position requires a passion for the overall mission and vision of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metro (BGCP) and its service to young people. The HR Assistant is highly organized, and committed to ensuring a people-centered experience in HR protocols and practices. They will assist with the day-to-day tasks of the HR team, and support a wide range of HR activities including general administrative duties, recruitment and employee development, employee database management, and payroll and benefits. The HR Assistant reports directly to the Senior Director of Human Resources, and is part of BGCP's Equity, People, and Culture Department. Position Responsibilities Support Senior Director of HR with all internal and external HR related inquiries or requests Process semi-monthly payroll for up to 125 employees and resolve payroll issues Perform administrative duties, such as maintaining employee database and sorting emails for the HR department Serve as point of contact for employees with benefit related questions Assist with the recruitment process (background checks, offer letters, etc.) Manage Applicant Tracking System in ADPWFN Schedule meetings, interviews, HR events and maintain agendas Oversee the completion of compensation and benefit documentation Assist with performance management procedures Complete full onboarding & offboarding in ADPWFN Update employment profiles BGCA account activation Collaborate with Executive Coordinator & Board Liaison on office management systems (i.e. mail pick-up/distribution, office supplies, etc.) Position Experience & Qualifications High school diploma At least two years' experience in an HR or payroll support role Experience in common payroll systems & HRIS: ADPWFN preferred Knowledge of all relevant overtime, leave, and benefits regulations Proficient in Microsoft Office Excellent written and oral communication skills including effective presentation/training skills Excellent interpersonal skills Organizational and time-management skills Solid knowledge of Oregon, Washington and Federal employment labor laws Experience in modeling intercultural competence and demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion and social justice Total attention to detail Ability to work to deadlines Ability to work under pressure Demonstrated commitment to learning and growth as it pertains to diversity, equity, and inclusion Exhibit understanding, sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences present in BGCP's service and employee population Organizational-level responsibilities of exempt employees include: To be an ambassador and a leader for BGCP's vision and mission, a cross-departmental collaborator, and an active contributor to building a positive work culture at BGCP In consultation and coordination with the supervisor, actively contribute to: cross-departmental efforts work culture activities and programming Preferred Qualifications: Highly experienced HR professional with acute knowledge of HR "best practices" and developing trends in the industry Experience operationalizing equity and racial justice principles through the functions of human resources Commitment to continued professional development to strengthen capacity to work through an equity lens for equity and racial justice Capacity to consider multiple perspectives, to pivot to respond to emerging needs and lead through organizational changes Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, BGCP has focused on protecting the health of our communities and workforce. The current surge in cases across the state because of the Delta variant and the resulting strain on our regional healthcare system present us with perhaps the steepest challenge of the pandemic so far. As a result, BGCP has, as mandated that as a qualification of employment, all staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by October 18, 2021, as allowed by law and unless the staff receives a medical or religious exemption. Candidates who receive an offer of BGCP employment must provide proof of vaccination upon hire or submit an exemption request prior to their start date.
