Job Description Job Description Position Title: Foreperson – Irrigation (Bailey Nurseries) Department: Sauvie Island Reports To: Production Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Position Summary: The Irrigation Foreperson oversees day-to-day irrigation operations across Bailey Nurseries Sauvie Island location, ensuring crops receive proper and timely water application. This role requires extensive field scouting, strong leadership, and hands-on technical expertise with both drip and overhead irrigation systems. The Foreperson manages a crew of 6–8, coordinating tasks, communicating priorities, and resolving conflicts to maintain efficient workflow. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Conduct regular field scouting and collaborate with department teams to determine irrigation needs.Coordinate with growers and managers on work requirements to plan and execute and irrigation schedules.Manage crews, communicate work assignments, monitor performance, and address issues.Train employees on proper irrigation equipment use and safe operating practices.Operate large and small equipment such as a backhoe, ditch witch, and other required equipment to complete tasks.Perform preventative and seasonal maintenance on irrigation and drainage systems.Maintain accurate records of materials, supplies, and equipment.Oversee harvest of shrubs and assist in other duties during the winter season. Required Qualifications: Knowledge of tools, equipment, technique, skills, materials & methods of irrigation system installation and maintenance. Experience leading crews, assigning work, and coordinating daily tasks.Ability to work safely individually and enforce safe practices with crew. Abiltiy to understsand and follow verbal written instructions.Open availability required. Ability to work longer hours, weekends, holidays and be on call for emergency needs. Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual (English and Spanish) Strongly PreferredValid drivers license with insurable driving record. Physical Requirements and Work Environment: This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. The employee must regularly lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds with assistance. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and wind. PPE may be required in certain work areas.
