Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington is seeking a friendly and outgoing Membership and Volunteer Support Specialist, with Spanish language skills, to support one of our Greater Portland Metro service areas.What you'll doThis is a dynamic role, responsible for the full lifecycle of bringing new members and volunteers into Girl Scouts and providing volunteers with ongoing support.The Membership and Volunteer Support Specialist is responsible for leading the development and execution of girl and adult membership recruitment and retention plans to achieve annual membership goals and outcomes, using methods that reflect the strengths of the community. Each Membership and Volunteer Support Specialist is assigned to support volunteers and membership in a specific geographic area, including that area's Girl Scouts service unit teams.Membership and Volunteer Support Specialists also manage and support service team volunteers. Supervision includes recruiting, selecting, appointing, training, and evaluating those volunteers in their assigned geographic areas. Specialists will ensure volunteers learn and comply with Girl Scouts policies and procedures to promote member safety and the Foundational Girl Scout Experience.

  • Be an ambassador of the mission and values of Girl Scouts and the benefits of our programs in the community.
  • Execute campaigns to invite new members and volunteers into Girl Scouts.
  • Attend events and community engagements to invite new volunteers, girls, and their families into Girl Scouting.
  • Build connections and partnerships with organizations in the community.
  • Guide new members and volunteers through the process of joining Girl Scouts, and help them find the right place within the organization.
  • Support volunteer and membership retention by providing excellent customer service and relationship management.
  • Volunteer management, training, and ongoing support. This includes volunteer placement, supervision, and conflict mediation (as needed).
  • Interpret and enforce policies and procedures with volunteers.
  • Public speaking, to both large and small groups.
  • Training adult volunteers.
  • Frequent local travel, up to 50% of the time during the peak seasons.What you bring
    • Outstanding collaboration and relationship-building skills.
    • Sales and/or recruitment skills.
    • Strong team and project leadership skills.
    • Impeccable communication skills, including verbal and written, and public speaking.
    • Ability to communicate well in both English and Spanish.
    • Analytical skills, with the ability to create, interpret, and present data, and use data in effective decision-making.
    • Computer proficient, including Microsoft office suite and ease in learning new applications.
    • Ability to travel to meetings, events, and community partner locations.
    • Familiarity with the demographic and cultural needs of the service area.
    • Spanish language skills at an independent user/conversational level, or better.The Details
      • Compensation -Non-exempt, $20.00 per hour with Spanish language skills at a conversational level, or better; Starting at $18.75 per hour without. +$1,000 hiring bonus after 90-days of employment.

      • Hours - Full-time. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends, and travel up to 50% of the time during peak seasons.
      • Location -This position will spend a lot of time working in the field. For office work, staff can choose to work remotely, in-office, or a hybrid. All necessary equipment will be provided by Girl Scouts.
