Let's work together.The mission of the Underwriting function is to foster sound underwriting and business decisions, develop effective relationships and contribute toward the growth and development of the underwriting department in an effort to write and retain long term profitable business. - Underwriters are expected to progress through the levels of the job family based on classroom training; on the job exposure; developing their analytical skills; independent decision making; effective communication, and leadership skills. -Below are typical functions of the underwriting job family. - Actual responsibilities may vary based on the business segment and the level of the position.Risk Decisions Apply sound, creative underwriting and business judgment in the timely analysis and evaluation of insurance risks to contribute to the growth and profitability of the organization.Customer Service Develop and maintain effective working relationships with assigned field personnel, producers, assigned policyholders and Home Office personnel through professional negotiation, responsive communication, problem resolution and anticipation of customer expectations. -Mentoring and TrainingProvide mentoring and training as appropriate based on job level and experience.Projects and Special Assignments Actively participate in projects to contribute to corporate goals.Education & Experience:Education - Bachelor's degree in Business and /or progressively responsible work experience with emphasis in Individual Disability Insurance (IDI) underwriting or medical or financial underwriting.Knowledge & Skills:Perform math calculations including the use of algebraic formulas; analyze detailed written information for accuracy and completeness; express ideas clearly both in written and oral communications, strong customer service and negotiation skills present and excellent time management skills. -Demonstrated ability to make good decisions and then utilize negotiation skills to achieve overall desired result. Also, demonstrated ability to utilize customer service skills. - Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite.Job Complexity & Judgment: - - - - - -Underwrites risk of moderate to more complex scope in the Regional Accounts. - Exercises independent judgment and discretion. - Applies appropriate underwriting guidelines, procedures, contract provisions, state insurance statues. Requires analysis of data where answers are not readily obtained. - Works within defined procedures to resolve non-standard issues. - - Makes recommendations for new processes or procedures. - Acts as trainer and mentor for Associate Underwriters.#LI-REMOTENote:The Standard is required to provide a reasonable estimate of thesalaryfor this role when hiring a Colorado resident.
