JOB TITLE: Collections Representative
SUPERVISOR: Business Services Supervisor
HOURS PER WEEK: 40hrs/Non-Exempt
DEPARTMENT: Business Office
HIRING BONUS: $1,000 after 90 days

functions and position requirements of this job. It does not

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To collect past due accounts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (* ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS) TPC123
1. Contact patients with past due balances, through collection
letters or phone calls. Keep collection letters updated.*
2. Set up payment schedules, maintain and monitor accounts.*
3. Talk to patients in person at registration desk regarding past
due accounts, down payments, etc.
4. Continuously upgrade collection techniques.
5. Train other personnel to assist in collections.
6. Answer business calls.*
7. Distribute aged trial balance, supervisor choices of collection
letters, and other options.*
8. Represent department to other departments in establishing credit
policies.*
9. Trouble-shoot problems before they expand.*
10. Check on and record bankruptcies. Negotiate settlements with
the attorneys.*
11. Work with outside collection agency to provide necessary
documentation and assistance as needed.
12. Post collection agency payments.*
13. Facilitate patient payment for self-pay
procedures/surgeries.
14. Bill E/R Physician Billing within guidelines.
15. Employees will not be discourteous or disrespectful to a
customer or any member of the public while in the course and scope
of company business.*
16. Work in a cooperative manner with management/supervision,
coworkers, customers and vendors.*
17. Abide by company policies.*
18. Participate as an active team member in a patient-centered
medical home.
19. Attend work regularly as scheduled.*
EDUCATION/LICENSES REQUIRED:
High School Graduate or equivalent
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
Two years of collection experience
Values team success

Shows an interest in taking action to increase his/her knowledge
and development as an employee
Contributes to an environment where people feel valued
Keyboarding skills
Proficiency in medical software and Microsoft Windows
Organizational skills and ability to prioritize work flow
Oral communication skills and excellent phone etiquette with an
ability to convey and receive information via the telephone
Competency in language, grammar, and spelling
Ability to interact and establish a good rapport with people over
the telephone and in person, often in stressful situations
Capability of effectively working on more than one task without a
reduction in the quality of work and service performed
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations and
to work under pressure
Ability to accept responsibility and use initiative to proceed with
necessary tasks without direct supervision
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working
relationships with patients and staff
