The Quality Systems Engineer will lead in the implementation of the Quality Management System globally, define interactions, and promote adherence. As a standardized Quality Management System is developed and implemented the focus of this role will shift to supplier management and development.

Location: Portland, OR

Reports to: Manager, Supply Chain Quality

Primary Duties and Responsibilities, other duties maybe assigned as business needs determine:

  • Primary Task (50%) - Quality System Design/Implementation
    • Lead the design and implementation of the Quality Management System globally
    • Design and implement quality control methods throughout the organization
    • Define and document interactions within the organization
    • Translate business process needs into software design requirements;
    • Deliver and support the design of training material to a variety of audiences
    • Lead quality audits, train internal auditors, and improve internal quality audit system and procedures
    • Collaborate with other sites/teams to drive towards standard processes
    • Proactively identify improvement opportunities (potential gaps between process and system) across all business functions, developing tools that allow for visibility into process bottlenecks and inconsistencies
    • Where best practices exist: implement
    • Where best practices do not exist: develop, document and implement
    • Monitor health of system and data quality
    • Second Task (50%) - Supplier and Part Quality Sustainment
      • Support cross functional teams to develop and approve part qualifications/PPAP's
      • Investigate internal and external customer complaints and quality issues
      • Consults on proper use of quality tools, including statistical process control, gauge capability, designed experiments, sampling, and reliability
      • Determine effect of inputs and variables, including interactions, on process output
      • Develop action plans in response to process variability and/or out of control conditions
      • Conduct onsite supplier assessments such as Quality Management System (QMS) and Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EHS&S)
      • Support Engineering in developing test plans and procedures designed to qualify product to meet design, marketing and quality standards and targets
      • Participate in design reviews and team meetings; ensure adherence to quality discipline and rigor.
      • Lead key suppliers to develop their technical capabilities and quality systems using continuous improvement tools

        Communication and Documentation:
        • Maintain open communication through conversation and both formal and informal documents

          Education:
          • Bachelor's degree in a related technical field required
          • Quality Engineer certification preferred
          • ASQ certification preferred

            Knowledge & Experience:
            • Four or more years of experience with effective deployment of systems in a global network
            • Experience working with IT on large deliverables
            • Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma background preferred
            • Experienced with ISO 9001 / TS-16949 Lead Auditor certification

              Skills/Abilities:
              • Mechanical background in consumer products including work with zinc and aluminum die-casting, plastic injection molding, metal fabrication/stamping, finish evaluations (painting & plating)
              • Quality tools experience (PFMEA, Gauge R&R, SPC, process capability analysis, CAPA, etc.)
              • Able to complete responsibilities in a timely, professional and quality manner
              • Solve problems analytically; search out relevant information and gauge its importance when making decisions
              • Effective written and oral communication skills; able to express oneself clearly and in technical and non-technical terms
              • Creative thinker
              • Collaborative and effective team player and able to work with teams who are globally dispersed
              • Sets a good example of personal integrity
              • Demonstrates ability and willingness to learn; seek out development activities to improve skills and increase knowledge; learn from other team members and own mistakes
              • Takes initiative, seeks and acts on opportunities to improve organization performance
              • Ability to translate specific goals into action and follow through to achieve goals
              • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and data management software (SAP preferred)

                Availability:
                • Available to work on site as may be required by job
                • Must be open for domestic and international travel several times per year, up to two weeks duration
                • Must be flexible with daily work schedule to support global team

                  For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in Washington, Colorado, Nevada, California, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, Oregon Tool is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Oregon Tool, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $84,046 to $132,793.
