Compensation and benefits: $55-65K starting salary, $75 monthly phone allowance, $450 monthly car allowance, parking pass, SIMPLE retirement plan with 3% employer matching, health insurance, flexible schedule.CommuniCare is not a traditional philanthropic grantmaking program. It is a youth education and leadership program where students are the grantmakers, supported by their teacher advisor and a CARE Foundation staff member.Students begin the year by selecting a community issue or service area they feel passionately about. Groups are guaranteed $7,500 from The CARE Foundation for their grantmaking and can double those funds by raising an additional $750, which CARE matches 10:1, up to a maximum gift of $15,000. Students spend the rest of the school year completing the grantmaking process - learning more about their service area, evaluating grant requests from local nonprofits, meeting with representatives from those organizations, and deciding which to fund. It is a wonderful mix of interpersonal skills, communication, and critical thinking.Although the core elements of the program are consistent across partnerships, student groups vary widely in their enrollment, settings, and needs.
