As the front line of contact in our Portland service center, insurance representatives do it all"from customer service and sales to underwriting and billing. They answer phone calls and solve problems, evaluate risk and communicate decisions. Its a tough balancing act, but they manage to make it look easy. As an important member of our service center small business team, youll be a primary resource for Spanish-speaking prospective customers and existing accounts. Youll gather and analyze information to determine eligibility, options, price, and terms of workers compensation coverage (within assigned authority). Keeping all those balls in the air requires quick thinking, sound judgment, and fluency in Spanish. Were looking for someone whos also friendly, a team player, self-motivated, organized, analytical, and has strong technical skills and customer service experience. Were hiring a representative in our downtown Portland office. No worries if you dont have workers comp experience: Well train you. Responsibilities Respond to a high volume of customer and business partner inquiries by explaining decisions, requirements, and options using knowledge of underwriting principles, procedures, and regulations regarding workers compensation insurance coverage, SAIFs plans and services, and coverage endorsements. Gather, research, and analyze potential customer information to determine eligibility for insurance coverage, based on underwriting criteria and assigned authority. Information is analyzed to determine degree of risk, exposure to hazards, safety programs, and classification assignments. Enter information in the policy system, quote coverage using SAIFs automated pricing system and communicate decision to the agent or prospective customer. May override automated pricing, within underwriting authority. Issue new business policies through entry of information into policy systems. Update and endorse existing policies as requested by agents or customers. Analyze and determine appropriate policy adjustments based on changes in policyholder business operations or entity type. Respond to requests for optional coverage or cancellation of insurance by interpreting and applying appropriate regulatory rules and procedures. Answer and explain inquiries from customers regarding invoices, payroll reports and interest charges for installment and arrears billed policies. Update policyholder information into policy system to ensure accuracy of invoices. Provide technical information and guidance to business partners in the use of automated pricing, policy, and billing systems and screens. Maintain a knowledge base of workers compensation laws, procedures, issues, and regulations. Collaborate with business partners to develop and foster relationships with agents and policyholders. Qualifications Required: Fluency in Spanish (written and spoken) Recommended: Three or more years experience demonstrating knowledge of underwriting and customer service is preferred. An Oregon general lines insurance license or the ability to obtain the license within a specified time period is required. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Other combinations of education and experience demonstrating knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job also will be considered.
