This is a regular part-time position (28 hours/week) for a Peer Support Specialist to work as part of the Community Support Services (CSS) program serving individuals with serious mental illness and/or co-occurring mental health and addictions challenges.. The Peer Support Specialist (PSS) will work with multi-disciplinary teams to assist individuals in accessing resources, addressing barriers related to their mental health, and developing skills that promote recovery and advocacy. Responsibilities include: using personal mental health experiences to provide support to individuals, assisting in utilizing recovery skills, providing linkage with local peer organizations, identifying strengths to achieve individual goals, and providing individual and group peer services.
Health coverage - Group medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage for the entire family. For the 2018-19 plan year, the County pays 99% of the monthly premium and employees pay 1% ($15.10 per month) for the Base Plan. With this plan, employees are eligible for a $100 a month contribution into an HRA VEBA account. Buy-up plans are also available. (Premiums will be prorated for part-time).Retirement - PERS (Public Employee Retirement System) contribution is 100% employer funded, which includes both contribution to PERS pension and IAP accounts (IAP contribution is 6% of salary).Short-Term Disability – 100% County paidLife insurance - $6,000 for employee/$2,000 for spouse and children – 100% County Paid.Vacation/Sick Leave - Flexible Earned Time (FET) is a combination of vacation and sick leave. To start, you will earn 12.38 hours per month (pro-rated for part-time) and future accruals increase based on years of service. After a year of service and depending on FET balance, employees may sell-back up to 40 hours of FET per year.
The successful candidate must have PSS certification from a state-approved program or the ability to obtain certification within 2 months of hire, in addition to a bachelor's degree in a human services related field or a combination of a least one year's work/relevant experience and two post-high school years' education, or a high school diploma and three years' work/relevant experience in human services. Must pass a criminal history background check.
The Peer Support Specialist must be a self-identified current or former recipient of mental health services who embraces the philosophy of resilience and recovery, who is willing to be a role model for persons receiving mental health services, and ideally have experience with an array of mental health services such as medication management, supported housing, supported employment, hospitalization, etc., and personal experience and knowledge of recovery. The successful candidate will have good written and verbal communication skills, general keyboarding and computer skills (including working knowledge of Microsoft Office, a valid license to drive in Oregon, and must have excellent personal boundaries, organizational skills, and demonstrated honesty, accuracy, and integrity.
