Start Date: March 4-August 3, 2019 Length of Position: 22 Weeks, Full Time Locations: Sites are located throughout the U.S. and will be with a federal or state agency, tribal government, or non-profit organization. Each intern is placed with a single site for the full 22 weeks. Age Requirements: Must be 18 34 years old to apply Application Due Date: Applications accepted until all positions filled 15 positions available. Applications received by1/28/2018 will be given preference. Living allowance: $404.00/week Additional Benefits: All interns who successfully complete their service are eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award in the amount of $2,255.24. Travel expenses to and from the internship site is covered by the BIA. Student loan forbearance during the term of service is available for qualifying individuals. Interns have access to AmeriCorps health insurance. Program Summary: Interested in a water resources career? Gain experience and skills training with the Stewards and Bureau of Indian Affairs' WaterCorps program. WaterCorps participants work with a federal or state agency (such as the National Park Service or US Fish and Wildlife Service), a tribal agency, or a nonprofit organization in a 22-week water resource-related internship. Depending on the specific internship, tasks may include data collection, water monitoring and sampling, watershed restoration, fisheries management, water delivery, and water treatment. In addition to building technical skills, these internships provide excellent networking opportunities and exposure to water resource career paths. Please contact Stewards program coordinator Danny Margoles for an updated list of host site locations.Intern preferences in project type, location, and agency type will be considered, although placement is ultimately determined by the BIA and Stewards. Program Applicant Requirements: To be eligible for this program, applicants must: - Be a member of a federally-recognized Indian Tribe, Band, or Village; Alaska Native; or meet one of the following descriptions: - Persons who possess at least one-half degree Indian blood derived from Tribes Indigenous to the United States. - Descendants of Members of Federally-Recognized Indian Tribes, Bands or Communities who were residing on any Indian Reservation on June 1, 1934 shown by completing BIA Form 4432. - Be between 18 and 34 years of age - Have received a High School Diploma or GED - Be willing and able to fully attend and travel to the one-week training - Be willing and able to relocate for the duration of the program depending on the host site location. If your position requires you to relocate, Stewards, the BIA, and your host site will cover travel and housing. Program Expectations: Academics: Interns are expected to fully participate in all academic components of the training. This includes daily attendance, active classroom participation, and completing all assignments in a thorough and timely manner. Communication: WaterCorps interns will be in communication with college faculty, Stewards program staff, BIA program staff, and staff at their host sites. Interns must possess the ability and drive to communicate timely and effectively via phone, email, and in person. Commitment: Interns must make a strong commitment to complete the entire 26-week term and periodic reports throughout their service. Interns not completing all aspects of the program will be ineligible for their AmeriCorps Education Award. Working conditions: Interns must be able to productively work as a team under all types of outdoor conditions, including, but not limited to, prolonged heat, cold, rain, dust, and snow. Interns must be able to bend, crouch, stoop, reach, and climb stairs, for prolonged periods of time. Tasks may include frequent lifting of moderately heavy objects that weigh 50 pounds. Interns should be familiar with operating a computer and have experience with email and word processors. To Apply: Candidates must fill out the Stewards online application for the WaterCorps program.
