The Maintenance Planner represents a key role coordinating the work
of the maintenance department, specifically, shutdown work and
capital project work. This position requires critical thinking and
reasoning skills to plan efficiently and effectively the work that
needs to be done and in what order to maximize machine uptime and
reliability.
The Maintenance Planner contributes to the continuous improvements
of critical plant performance metrics in the areas of safety,
quality, and productivity. This role is essential to the Marine
Terminal's successful operations. The Maintenance Planner is a
salaried position, reporting to the Manager-Special
Projects.
- Daily attendance of Maintenance pre-shift meeting.
- Planning of approved work requests to secure
information/materials needed to prepare work orders for scheduling
and safe completion in and out of shutdown context.
- Responsible for securing outside resources, creates scope of
work and solicits quotes for work requests. Meets with requestor to
ensure work request understanding. Contacts contractors to procure
competitive bids as required.
- Works collaboratively with Maintenance Manager and Maintenance
Supervisor to ensure parts readiness for all uptime and downtime
scheduled work orders.
- Updates BOMs as necessary and routinely audits to maintain
current systems.
- Research parts costs and orders cost-effective, quality parts
in compliance with all sourcing policies and procedures.
- Creates and maintains maintenance plans and recurring task
lists as directed by Maintenance Manager.
- Attends meetings such as the Daily Planning meeting and
Downtime Planning meetings.
- Assists with parts procurement when requested.
- Performs maintenance tasks for emergency repair jobs. Obtains
emergency repair parts.
- Participates actively in the Safety Program.
- Must complete other duties and assignments as directed by the
Maintenance Manager
- May be asked to cover shift to help support Terminal
operations.
- Creates new work standards while working on updating old
standards.
- Industrial maintenance knowledge and skill in troubleshooting
motors, controls, drives, conveyors, hydraulics, and
pneumatics
- 5 years of documented experience in industrial equipment
maintenance, or vocational training plus 3 years of work experience
in a heavy industrial environment
- Experience managing related union labor.
- Journeyman's License as a Millwright preferred.
- Experience working with Reliability Centered
Maintenance.
- Basic math and science knowledge.
- Strong Preventive/Predictive knowledge and experience.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office - Word,
Excel, Project, Teams
- Ability to work from layout plans, blueprints, drawings, or
other specifications to determine work procedures.
- Basic welding ability and knowledge.
- Understanding of precision assembly and alignment techniques,
rigging and crane work
- Ability and knowledge to properly direct equipment use, such as
drill presses, lathe, milling machine, chain falls, jacks, slings,
burning torches, and other types of portable and hand
tools.
- Project management experience. Ability to oversee projects to
completion.
- Ability and willingness to work in widely varied
environments.
- Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and
develop strong working relationships with production and
vendors.
- Advanced critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
- Demonstrated strong organization skills.
- Strong customer focus and willing to go the extra
mile.
- Ability to learn CMMS program.
- Early management of projects / BOM.
- Facilitate meetings in person or on Microsoft Teams.
- Must have valid DL.
- Thorough knowledge or principles of terminal
operations.
- Proven leadership skills.
- Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and
regulations
- Required to observe all safety and health requirements for
container terminal environment.
Work Environment:
- Required job duties are normally performed in a
climate-controlled office environment.
- Exposure to computer screens.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually
moderate.
