CLOSE DATE : This position will remain open until all 30 vacancies have been filled. Work will begin May 1st and continue through September 30th.-- --Important Dates:-- March 20th will be the first application review and every Monday morning after.-- First round of interviews will begin the week of March 26th through April 9th PAY INFORMATION : Salary Range:--$15.71-$19.64/hourly Hours per Week: 40 Union Representation: None. This is a Seasonal position.-- Benefits:--Employees will accrue one (1) hour of sick leave for every thirty (30) hours worked with a maximum accrual of eighty (80) hours per year.-- JOB INTRODUCTION : Clackamas County Transportation Maintenance Division located in downtown Oregon City is looking to hire approximately 15-30 hardworking and motivated individuals to work in the Road, Bridge, and Traffic Maintenance sections for Clackamas County on a temporary basis from May 1st -September 30th. Incumbents will work in one of these areas and may be asked to work more than 40 hours a week, outdoors (regardless of weather conditions), and sometimes in highly congested traffic areas. Due to the nature of the position, punctuality and attendance are critical to the success of the team and the Division's goals. Additionally, incumbents should be committed to working the duration of the season.The Transportation Maintenance Division within the Department of Transportation and Development is responsible for maintenance of road surfaces, shoulders and ditches, culvert and storm water drainage, bridge maintenance, ferry maintenance, stripping, sign work, and road patching for roughly 1,400 miles of county roads. (IMPORTANT: Please note that Marijuana is a Class I controlled substance; its use is illegal under federal law.----Although some states permit the use of marijuana to treat medical conditions when supported in writing by a licensed medical doctor, this is not an acceptable explanation for a positive drug test under this Policy. The Medical Review Officer will automatically verify such tests as positive.) Must successfully pass a post-offer, pre-employment physical assessment. Additional duties may include operating hand and power tools; operating light to moderate size vehicles; basic road maintenance (patching holes, repairing road shoulders); construction tasks; may install, maintain, and repair roadway drainage systems (clearing culverts and catch basins, unplugging pipes); maintain storm water facilities and control roadside vegetation/litter.---- WORKING CONDITIONS : Road Maintenance Assistant's perform manual work almost exclusively outdoors. --Duties require frequent standing, squatting, digging, bending, twisting, balancing, reaching, grasping, fine motor control, and the ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds and push/pull 50 pounds. --Duties also involve frequent exposure to loud noises, exhaust fumes and dust, hot oil, asphalt and chemicals, slippery and/or uneven surfaces, traffic hazards, and adverse weather conditions including extreme temperatures. The county provides safety training, on-the-job training, and the necessary Proper Protective Equipment (PPE) required for the job.
