Location: Portland, OR
Hours: 0.6 FTE (24 hours/week)
Schedule: Variable hours and days

Shriners Children's - Portland offers specialized care for a wide range of pediatric orthopedic conditions. Other specialties available at our facility include fracture and sports injury treatment, scoliosis & spine care and cleft lip and palate care.

Job Summary:
Shriners Hospitals for Children - Portland is seeking a .6 FTE Child Life Specialist to join our team! The Child Life Specialist is responsible to provide optimal developmental and psychosocial support to children and their families throughout the health care setting. Support is offered to children from infancy to adolescence. The program promotes interventions that support the emotional and creative needs of children within the hospital through providing direct interventions and advocacy of the psychosocial needs of children and families. The Child Life Specialist uses interventions such as play, medical play, procedural preparation and rehearsed coping to minimize distress associated with healthcare experiences and to promote resiliency. The Child Life Specialist will participate in a Team Approach, collaborating to promote patient family centered care, and to foster positive hospital-community relations. Has depth of knowledge of child development (birth -- 21), family systems theories, the impact of stress and trauma on children and Non-pharmacological interventions to alleviate distress.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree in Child Life Therapy, Human Development, or related field is required
Two years' of relevant Child Life experience working in a hospital setting is required
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required
Certification as a Child Life Specialist (CCLS) is required
Experience working with multiple or various age groups of children is preferred
Experience with electronic medical records and e-charting
Ability to provide developmental assessments, to represent child life and communicate psychosocial issues to members of the health care team
Must demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills, effective time and resource management, and promote a Team Approach
Demonstrates knowledge of Child Development and the psychosocial effects of hospitalization on children and their families.
